Pour batter into prepared pans. Fill 8 inch pan with 1 inch of batter. Pour the remaining batter into the doll cake pan or the bowl. If you have any remaining cake batter, you can pour into cupcake pans.
Bake at 350 degrees until knife or toothpick inserted into cakes comes out clean.
After baking, remove from oven and cool completely. To speed cooling, you can place the cakes into the refrigerator or freezer.
Remove from pans. MAKE SURE CAKES ARE COMPLETELY COOLED BEFORE ICING CAKES.
Select your favorite white homemade icing or canned icing. You will frost the cake with a knife or spoon. You do not need any other special cake decorating tools.
Place a small dollop of icing onto the plate or board to secure the 8 inch cake.
Place the 8 inch cake onto the icing on the plate or board.
Frost the 8 inch cake top.
Place wide end of doll pan cake on top of 8 inch cake. Completely cover cakes with icing.
If using regular doll: With a knife inserted through middle of top of the cake where the doll will be inserted, carve out a 1 1/2 inch hole. If using 7 inch doll pick instead of the regular doll, DO NOT CARVE OUT THE HOLE IN THE TOP OF THE CAKE. Just insert doll pick into top of cake.
FOR REGULAR DOLL: Remove clothes and shoes from doll. Tie doll’s hair into a pony tail with a ribbon or rubber band. Wrap doll from chest to bottom of feet in aluminum foil. Push the regular doll into center of cake. If doll’s position in the cake is too wiggly, add icing into the cake hole to secure.
Wrap a piece of thin color coordinating ribbon around dolls chest to form top of dress and a piece of ribbon around the doll’s waist. Secure long pieces of ribbon to flow down the sides and back of the dress. The icing will act as the glue to secure the ribbon onto the cake.
Sprinkle yellow colored sugar in the front and center of the dress. Sprinkle pink colored sugar on the remaining areas of the dress, or alternate pink and yellow colored sugar around the dress.
